The greatest question ever posed.

Read the Post below before you read this one.

DISCLAIMER:
If you consider questioning the existence of god as blasphemy, this is the right time for you to hit the cross button on the top right corner.

Consider our perception of god. Think for a second.......what is god. Now, I know the first thing you must be thinking is "What is this guy? an Atheist, trying to rub his ideas in to us?" lemme make it clear. I am notheist. I dont affiliate myself to any category. I am just trying to question something which is an integral part of my existence in this world. God and faith and race and nationality are like specifications are, to machines. So I seek to understand my specifications. Thats all there is here. So now, where were v? aah yeas. Ask yourself, as I do mysef what is god?

Is God an IT or a HIM/HER. Surely I dont know. So I asked sravan he doesnt know either (but he asked me a question back, like always, which we shall get to later) I asked many others, they all have divided opinions. But on consensual basis god is a HIM, for some strange reason, apparently. So does god have a SEX. He is classified Male so he does. But doesnt that mean we are giving him a form? I'd say, a human form. The bible says: god created man to look like himself. And Hindu gods are human too.....may be with a little twist, a few extra limbs or eyes but they are almost human. and so is the case with most faiths, but there are exceptions. Islam and many others say god is formless. So there is a difference in opinion and perception. What I cant get is, why cant there be a consensus on gods form?. God is surely the most integral part of our existence. and still, there are differences . The earth's shape on the other hand, is universally accepted. There aren't any groups like, Flat earth believers and round earth believers. Because it has proof. A hard scientific proof.

Unfortunately for god, there are no first hand witnesses. No one ever told that they have seen God. Coz even if someone did, they would be laughed at. Like we laugh at people, who claim to have seen Aliens in their backyard. All we have is a belief about god, which has been passed down over 1000's of years over generations. And it is probably true. But if different groups have different forms for god, there are two logical inferences you can make.

One: Either there's many gods, or
Two: There is only one god but different people perceive him in different ways.

If its the first case, which is not foolish, because, there has to be a reason why Millions have killed each other over Gods. There's two explanations to this. One, either these people were as mad as animals, which is more likely. Or, its actually the gods of their respective faiths, settling their feuds using their believers as soldiers. But that makes them gang lords and shatters our image, of our gods being loving and benign. So its safe to conclude that, Inference ONE is false.

If its the second case, where theres just one god, doesn't it mean people believe in God, not being sure what he actually is. May be its not important how he looks like. What is more important is to believe in him. This statement perfectly brings me to my next point, BELIEF.

I am perfectly aware that the above argument is lame and futile, but to make a point, there has to be a premise. A filler material, that adds up the void. Let me go on.

Nomatter what or who god is, its perfectly acceptable that god is something beyond the natural. Beyond the power of humans. The word power is the key here. Human beings by nature, worship power. You can Deny it by not being truthful, or, by not being realistic. but we all worship power, its in our nature. Think of the people who have influenced you in your life. Your dad, a leader, a thinker, or someone loved by everyone else. They all have power. In their own little or large extents, from our families to nations respectively, they have power over others. And God is the most powerful, or at least we think so.

Most of our belief in God has a start. An incident, or a series of incidents,, that were beyond our control. Beyond anybodys control for that matter. So what do we attribute this to? To God. He has to be the most powerful entity in the world. And he must be responsible for what ever happened.

Lemme give you an example. If you were looking for a job, desperately, for a loooong time and someone told you to visit a temple or whatever, and say you did. And then if you get a job immediately, what would you think. It could be a coincidence and god probably had nothing to do with it. but you cant take a chance. Not with god. You can't discredit him. And then what do we do? you go back and thank him. But then what?, after a while, even if you have no wishes, will you not visit him again? Yes you will. OR at least most of us will. Why? Coz we fear god. "I gave you what you asked for and you have forgotten me?"

You cannot anger god!!.
Anger??...what is this? we are giving god, human emotions and attributes?

When we do go back, we only to ask him do miracles with our lifes. "You do me this favour, I'll comeback and run 107 times around you, bulldozing others around me, stamping on others feet and crushing old people to walls. Once done, I wont owe you anything". It is an inconvenient truth, that most of us go to our shrines for only two reasons. One is the fear of god and the other is the fear of being a social outcast. I had both for a long time. I have overcome them after not being able to answer the above questions. If i ask myself now, why I go to a temple, its because I like the feel of a temple. The setting of the temple, is what makes me go. They are often, serene and calm without the usual monkey madness that's around us everyday. For the same reason, I abhor going to busy temples. The crowds make me sick. And forget buying a special ticket to see god. Its like buying a black ticket to watch a movie trailer for me.

I digress.
There's also another interesting thing. we all know, that theres god and then theres destiny. which way does the > symbol lie between the two? If god cannot control destiny, whats the point in praying? If he can control destiny, then there's again a problem. If he could control destiny, all the people who visit him ( Hmm....why do we have to go some where to pray or talk to him? hes supposed to be omnipresent.........I donno) ask what they want, should be very happy people. And surely there cant be any suffering in the world, coz I asked him for world peace a couple of times. But thats not the case. "he does only what's right to you, and what you deserve." thats the counter argument. So even in this case, theres no point in praying and asking him things he wont give you anyway. So I have realised its best not to ask him for anything at all.

By now I know your brains must be tired and also that you are calling me with superlatives and adjectives, so let me get to what my point is, again.

We are made to believe in things to be real and true, even if we fail to percieve them, let alone see them. So questions like, does god exist or not, do you believe in him? are all stupid questions. What's more profound is the question Sravan shot back at me when I asked him this. He asked me "What difference does it make to you?" It might sound simple, or probably he said that unwittingly, but its one of the most profoundest ( does this word exist?) questions. I thought for a looong time and concluded it did not. It didnt make any difference to me if god existed or not.

That's not the case with the earth being flat or round you know. The earth has to be round for me. Its roundness, (don't think that's a real word either) does make a difference to me. If its flat, its awefully difficult to get satellites into orbit and I wouldnt be able to use my mobile or be in touch with god on the internet (Google).

  2. hi viky ,

common question which comes to every mind ....

the term "GOD" is created by some human beings who tell the younger ones that GOD is omnipresent, who has all powers , who destroys bad and protects good , who understands all languages and helps the needy etc.,etc.,

If someone comes and helps a person in need then he terms him as "GOD" and tells him that "I see GOD in U ..."

According to me "GOD" is in everyone and is in "HIMSELF" .

People visit to temples pray the GOD , according to me a temple is a place of MIRRORS which reflect our INNERSELF .
